Teaching distance
« Back to Glossary Index

In the field of digital learning, distance learning refers to the relational, rather than physical, proximity that a trainer or teacher can establish with all of his or her learners in distance learning. It should be noted that this can also apply to face-to-face training. This refers to the trainer’s ability to open up dialogue, exchange ideas, create a bond of trust, assess the strength and difficulty of these learners, etc. For example, we may come across an English teacher in another country who is able to encourage dialogue, even on the telephone, which removes the various obstacles. He or she can therefore establish a short teaching distance.
