Formal apprenticeship
« Back to Glossary Index

Formal learning is learning that takes place in a context that is both structured and organised. It may be training in a workplace or in a training institution, for example. In the field of digital learning, this form of learning takes place at a distance. It is also explicitly referred to as learning in terms of resources, time or objectives. These objectives are not set by the learner, but by the institution with which he or she is registered. It should be emphasised that formal learning is the result of the will and initiative of each learner. In the majority of cases, it leads to certification and validation.
